About Stampics Stamps
What are Stampics Stamps and how are they made?
Stampics stamps are made with special high resolution rubber material and produced using exclusive technology.  Images are computer edited and then transferred to the special rubber material to make the stamps.  The resulting stamp is very high definition, up to 2400dpi, the same as a high quality laser printer.  The impression left by the stamp is photo-quality - and the better the photo, the better the stamp.

How is it different than a regular rubber stamp?
Regular rubber stamps leave an impression that is black and white (or whichever color ink is being used). Stampics stamps uses black, white, and the gray scales in between to make a photo-like impression.  Ink is saturated into the stamp itself, making it a self-inking stamp.

It is not recommended to change ink colors on your Stampics stamp, as the ink is soaked into the stamp material in your Stampics stamp. You should purchase multiple stamps if you want to create different color impressions with the same image.

Is it self-inking?
Yes - your Stampics stamp comes pre-inked with special ink, which will last about 100 impressions before it needs to be re-inked.  You will receive a 10cc bottle of the ink that will allow you to re-ink your stamp 50 – 100 times depending on the size of the stamp.  To re-ink the stamp, just squeeze a drop or two of ink onto the surface of the stamp, let it soak in for a few minutes and wipe off the excess with a cloth.

How many times can the stamp be used?
The stamp can be used indefinitely as long as it is not damaged.  Depending on the image, It will need to be re-inked every 50-100 stamps.

Photo Quality
What kind of photos will make the best stamps?
For best results, you want to use a photo that has:

1.)
Good contrast between the subject and the background.
A light or neutral colored background is the best to work with, or a background that is has at least a 20% difference in shading between the subject and background.   A white dog on a white background will not have enough contrast to make a stamp.

2.)
Good contrast in the face (or main focus) of the subject.   If you can clearly see the eyebrows, eyes, mouth of the subjects’ face versus the skin, then it’s probably ok.

3.)
Good Focus.  A blurry shot, or subjects that are too far away will make a blurry stamp.   See a samples of a photo that is too blurry.

4.)  A lot of face.  Generally, you want a good clear shot of the face in order to  benefit from the photo-like effects of the Stampics stamp.

What camera settings should I use for new photos?
If you are taking a new photo for creation into a stamp, set your camera to high resolution, and get a good close-up of the subject against a solid background of a different color than the subject.

What are the photo quality requirements?
The minimum dpi required is 72, and the minumum number of pixels is 144 pixels wide. However, in a photo that is the minimum 144 pixel size, the subject should fill the entire frame. If your subject appears 'tiny' in the photo, and needs to be blown up to match the size of the stamp ordered, that means that you are spreading out those pixels and it will make the subject blurry. Basically, the subject of the stamp will need to be the actual size of the stamp or larger in order to make a good stamp.

What file types and sizes are acceptable?
JPEG, GIF, TIFF, BMP are all acceptable.  File sizes should be around 600K, maximum 1200K

Should I crop the photo before uploading it?
If you have the software and the skills to crop the images first, you should definitely crop your image first, since you will have more control over what stamp will look like.  If you are not able to crop the image, you can leave special instructions after uploading your image to request special cropping.

If you are cropping the photo, and can also re-set the resolution, save the image at 300dpi.

What about removal of the background in the photo?
If you check the box "remove background" on the order form, we will remove the background from around the subject.  Background removal is easier if there is good contrast between the background and subject, but we can remove most backgrounds unless the background is the same color as the subject.  If you know how to remove the background on photos, you can do this yourself also.

Can I prepare my own Stamp Art, on my own computer, then upload it?
Yes, this way you have full creativity on creating stamps.  Use any fonts, art elements, etc.  You will be limited only by your creativity.  Here's How

What if the photo I submit is not good enough quality to make a stamp?
If the photo quality is not good enough to make a good stamp, we’ll return the photo and you will not be charged.  You can return to the Stampics site and try again with another photo.  Common reasons a photo quality may not be good enough is:  out of focus, not enough contrast, subjects not big enough, not enough contrast between subject and background.  Examples of good and bad photos and why

Using the stamp
What materials can I use the stamp on?

Does it work just like a rubber stamp?

Ink Questions
How do I re-ink the stamp?
To re-ink the stamp, place a drop or two of ink on the face of the stamp, spread the ink evenly across the printing area of the stamp, and then let it soak in for a few minutes.  Softly wipe away the excess ink with a cloth, and your stamp is ready to use.

-On skin: Soap and water will remove ink from skin.

Taking Care of the Stamp
How do I take care of my stamp?

-Your Stampics stamp comes with an airtight case, which should be left on when the stamp is not in use.

-Stampics ink is specially formulated for Stampics stamps.  You should not use ink from other sources on your Stampics Stamp.

-Do not let ink dry on the surface of your stamp.  Once you re-ink your stamp, wipe off the extra ink (of just stamp off the extra ink) before putting the stamp away.

-Changing ink colors on your stamp is not recommended.  If you would like to stamp in different colors, you should purchase a separate stamp for each ink color.

-You should not try to wash the surface of your Stampics stamp, as this will ruin the surface and permanently damage the stamp.

-The stamp is sensitive to high heat, so it should not be left in direct sunlight, or be put through the dryer.

Stampics is not responsible for the replacement of damaged stamps due to using other inks, washing the surface, or allowing the stamp to dry out.
